Since its inception, Pharmaceutical Partners of Canada has been an active partner and strong supporter of the CSHP Banff Seminar. For almost two decades, PPC has sponsored the Sunday Lunch Symposia for the delegates to this conference, offering exciting and timely presentations on a variety of topics.
Here are some examples of recent subjects:
“Outsourced Hospital Pharmacy Services in Canada (Ms. Karen Graham, 1998)
“Alternative Medicines: Formulary Considerations” (Dr. Heather Boon, 1999)
“Hospital Pharmacy in the New Millennium” (Dr. Kevin Hall, 2000)
“Carnitine Deficiency: An Often Missed Diagnosis” (Jay Humphrey, 2001)
“Chemical and Biological Warfare Agents in Terrorism: Their Nature, Threat, and Consequence Management,” (Dr. Camille Boulet, 2002)
“Legacy or Liability: The Reformation of Canadian Health Care” (Dr. David Gratzer, 2003)
“Canadian Economic and Health Policy Implications of Cross-Border Internet Pharmacy” (Chris Ward, 2004)
“Impact of Bar Code Technology on Patient Safety: Are We There Yet” (Barry Goughnour, 2005)
“Influenza: Why Worry” (Dr. Lorne Tyrrell, 2006)
In March 2007, the first collaborative symposia efforts between Abraxis Oncology and Pharmaceutical Partners of Canada occurred at the 33rd Annual CSHP Western Branches Banff Seminar. Approximately 100 delegates attended this Sunday Lunch Symposia entitled, “Optimizing Clinical Outcomes in Breast Cancer.” Two presentations were given on the subject, with Dr. Sunil Verma, a Medical Oncologist, and Danica Lister, an Oncology Pharmacist, presiding as the guest speakers. Comments from our CSHP delegation about this CCCEP accredited program were very positive, with the main feedback being that PPC had once again delivered subject matter and guest speakers that are current and interesting to Canadian Hospital Pharmacists. Stay tuned for next year’s presentations!
